NEW Online Permitting Process For Building Permits
The Village of West Salem contracts with General Engineering Company (GEC) for building inspection services, and we are excited to announce that contractors and homeowners can now request permits online with GEC’s online permit application.
This electronic permit application is set up to assist contractors and homeowners by requesting only relevant information associated to the permit they are applying for. Applicants have the option of completing this permit application and submit related documents online anytime day or night.
How To Apply For A Permit Online
First, start your online permit application. Have an electronic (PDF) copy of the following (if applicable for your type of project):
- Construction Plans
- Zoning Permit (If altering the footprint of the home or Fence Permit)
- Site Plan/Plot Plan (New Home or Fence Permit)
- Impact Fee Form (New Home)
- Grading Permit and Plan (New Home)
- Erosion Control Plan (New Home)
- Braced Wall Plan (New Home)
- Heat Calcs (New Home)
During the application process, you will be able to upload any plans and other required documentation applicable for your type of project. Once you have started the permit application you will receive an email with a link in case you need to pause and return to complete the process later.
After you have finished filling out the form and have submitted it, you will then receive another email confirming that it has been submitted for review. If you do not receive the second email confirming your submittal, this means it is still in draft form and may have missing information. Please use the link in the first email you received to go back into your application and verify that all required boxes are checked as complete.
What Happens After Application Submission?
After you have submitted your online permit application, the Inspector will review and request more information or accept for further processing. Once accepted, the Inspector will complete detailed review and follow-up with remaining questions with the goal of approving.
Once approved, you will be notified with an email from our office that your permit is ready and the payment amount owed. As a reminder, no work should begin until you have an approved permit card. Please direct any questions to [email protected].
Paying For A Permit
Payments can be made by check and may be mailed or placed in the drop box located outside the Village Hall.
